WhatsApp: The 'calling feature' invite is a Scam.

WhatsApp users across the world are being targeted by cyberscammers who are circulating fake messages inviting users to test the new calling feature that fills the phone with dangerous malware.
According to the Daily Star, if users click on the link, they are taken to another website where they are asked to take a survey on behalf of the popular messaging service.
However, the survey forces people to download applications and software that might contain dangerous malware.
WhatsApp has not announced the calling feature officially. However, some users claim to have used it.
Last month there were reports of the voice calling feature being rolled out with some users claiming to have used the feature. The calling feature was introduced on WhatsApp's new build (2.11.508) which was only available on WhatsApp's website at that time.
The report claimed that there would be separate screen each for making voice calls to WhatsApp contacts, call logs and ongoing calls.
Speaking in an industry conference in October 2014, the delay in rolling out voice calling feature was due to technical hurdles that developers were facing, saying that the service had been delayed till Q1 2015.
The voice calling feature brings WhatsApp in direct clash with apps like WeChat, Viber and Line that already allow users to make calls and send messages. WhatsApp is the biggest instant messaging app in the world, with 700 million active users in January 2015.

Want To Activate Whatsapp Calling:

How to Activate WhatsApp Voice Calling

WhatsApp's voice calling feature is now available to all Android users. The world's most popular messaging app with over 700 million monthly active users only introduced this feature recently and rolled it out gradually to its Android users. If you are not an Android user, you'll just have to wait a little longer to get this feature. But if you use Android, and haven't yet activated voice calling on WhatsApp, what are you waiting for? Source:NDTV
The process isn't as simple as updating WhatsApp to start using the voice calling features. It involves a couple more steps that you need to follow. We've described these below, so take a look to enable voice calling on WhatsApp for Android.
  1. Download the latest version of WhatsApp for Android from here. The latest version on WhatsApp's website is 2.12.12, but if you're downloading from Google Play, ensure that your device has version 2.11.561. Older versions don't support this feature for all users.
  2. Once you have the latest version of WhatsApp installed on your Android phone, ask someone who has WhatsApp calling enabled to make a WhatsApp call to your number.
  3. Multiple users have reported that giving a missed call doesn't work. You'll have to receive the call and wait for a few seconds before disconnecting to activate WhatsApp voice calling.
  4. When the feature is enabled on your smartphone, you'll see a new three-tab layout on WhatsApp, one each for Calls, Chats and Contacts.

Facebook working on Truecaller rival

After trying its hand at ephemeral messaging and news reading apps, Facebook is all set to launch a phone dialler and caller ID app, called 'Phone' for Android users.

According to a new report by Android Police, several users have spotted a button to try and install an app named 'Phone' inside the Facebook Android app. The button says that the app shows information about who's calling and automatically blocks calls from commonly blocked numbers.

The button was meant for Facebook employees using a test build as it's labeled 'FB-ONLY' but it looks like the server-side element made its way to a wider set of users in error. The button returns a "no page found" error as the app install file is most likely located on Facebook's internal servers.

The app would rival the likes of Truecaller which offers a caller ID, reverse-lookup feature and also has a phone dialler app. Facebook already has a database of its users' phone numbers so it won't be difficult to collate the information.
